Dr Chan was the Principal of Sheng Kung Hui Bishop Mok Sau Tseng Secondary School (1993-2004), Principal of St. Paul’s Co-educational College and the Supervisor of St. Paul’s Co-educational College Primary School (2004-2017), and has been the Supervisor of Sheng Kung Hui Kindergarten since 2004.
Dr Chan is currently Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), Honorary Fellow of The Education University of Hong Kong, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Principals’ Institute (2012-2018), Former Chairman of the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council (2002-2004), Former Council Members of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Education University of Hong Kong, Former Member of the Independent Police Complaints Council and Non-Official Member of the Correctional Services Department Complaints Appeal Board.
In November 2017, Dr Chan was appointed by the HKSAR Government to chair the Task Force on Review of School Curriculum to provide directional recommendations on some pivotal areas, namely catering for students’ diversity, whole-person development, articulation of learning at the primary and secondary levels, and enhancement of students’ capacity to meet with future challenges, and values education. Major recommendations of the Task Force’s Report are now being implemented in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
Dr. Chan received her Bachelor Degree (First Class Honours) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 1980 and 1982 respectively from the University of Hong Kong, Master Degree in Education in 1985 from the Institute of Education, London University and Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education in 1993 from Monash University, Australia.
Dr. Chan was awarded Sir Robert Trust Fund Scholarship for her Master study in the UK, Australian Postgraduate Research Award and Peter Fensham Scholarship on her PhD study in Australia, and Distinguished Alumni Award from the Science Faculty of the University of Hong Kong.
